Ministries

St. John the Evangelist Parish Ministries

 

LITURGY

Sacristan: Assists the Priest by placing all needed items for Mass in the Church and assures that all ministers are ready prior to Mass.

Altar Server: Assists the Priest during the liturgy with the Mass.

Usher:  Assists parishioners in finding a seat or any special needs they may have, helps with the collection, dismisses for communion and hands out bulletins at the end of Mass.

Lector: Proclaims the Word of God at Liturgies.

Eucharistic Minister: Assists Priest in the distribution of the Precious Body and Blood of Christ.

Music: Plan, prepare and provide worship music at Parish Liturgies.

Flowers/Banners: Maintains the environment of the Church through keeping the flowers fresh and changing banners and decorations with the liturgical seasons.

Sound Board Technician: Monitor and adjust the sound board during a liturgy.

Funeral Sacristan/Server: Assists the Priest at funerals.

 

CHILDREN’S FAITH FORMATION

Classroom Catechists: Teaches children four years of age through fifth grade in religious education classes. (October through May)

Classroom Catechists

Children’s Liturgy of the Word: Provides the children an opportunity to experience the Sunday scripture readings on their own level. (October thru May)

Vacation Bible School: Participates through planning and implementing this weeklong event held in the summer.

Children’s Choir: Meets one time a week and sings at the Mass on the first Sunday of each month.

Classroom Aide: Assist the Catechists as needed.

Little Angels Classroom Aide: Assists the day care educator as needed.

Misc. Help: Help with planning and implementing the Fall Festival, May Crowning and other liturgical seasonal events.

 

YOUTH AND YOUNG ADULTS

High School Adult Leaders: This is a team of adults who love to minister to and with youth.  They plan and lead the weekly Wednesday HS youth Night.

Middle School Adult Leaders:  This is a team of adults who love to minister to and with youth.  They plan and lead the weekly Wednesday MS Youth Night.

Young Adult Leadership Team: A leadership team of young adults (20s – 30s) who meet periodically with other catholic young adult leaders in the Vancouver area to brainstorm, plan and facilitate young adult events.

Youth Leadership (Teens): Teens with a desire to take a more active leadership role with the youth ministry (ie. Leading VBS, skits, talks, helping with MS Youth Ministry, planning events).

Retreat Team: A team comprised of adults who are experienced and interested in retreats. They help plan and facilitate retreats.

Misc. Help :( events, office, etc.) A variety of ways to help at events such as chaperoning or with office help such as data input.

 

SACRAMENTAL LIFE

Confirmation Team: The team inspires, guides, and implements the Confirmation program.

Retreat Team: A team comprised of adults who are experienced and interested in retreats.  They help plan and facilitate retreats.

Liturgy Team: Recruits, schedules and trains youth for the Youth Mass.

Catechist Teacher: Teaches our faith and the Sacraments to our youth.

Teacher Aide: Aides the Catechist in running the classroom.

Interpreter: Interprets documents and lectures through headsets.

Misc. Help: (events, office, etc.) A variety of ways to help Sacramental Life at events such as chaperoning, or with office help such as data input.

 

ADULT FAITH FORMATION

RCIA Team: Works with adults who are interested in the Catholic Church or are in need of receiving Sacraments.

RCIA Sponsor: Faithfully supports those preparing to enter the Catholic Church and those receiving Sacraments.

Infant Baptism Preparation: Prepares parents and godparents for the Sacrament of Baptism.

Bible Groups: Facilitates faith sharing through Bible study groups (English and Spanish).

Engagement/Marriage Encounter (preparation): Guides couples in preparation for marriage, (English and Spanish programs).

 

 

OUTREACH

St. Vincent de Paul: Organizes and coordinates a food bank and provides financial assistance to those who qualify.

Pro Life: Devoted to the protection of all life and educating people on pro-life issues from birth to natural death.

Eucharistic Minister to Homebound: Visits the homebound and offer prayers and communion.

Eucharistic Minister to Hospital: Offers prayers and communion to Catholics in the Hospital.

Preschool: Assists the teacher in the classroom. Classes are offered in the morning and afternoon Monday through Friday.

Prayer Shawl Ministry: Knits or crochets shawls for the seriously ill and prays specifically for those individuals to comfort them and bring them hope.

Bereavement Ministry: Offers loving comfort, support and encouragement to persons who have lost a loved one through death.

 

GROUPS TO JOIN

Knights of Columbus: A fraternal organization which coordinates special projects, events and fundraisers to build community.

Catholic Daughters: Open to all women over the age of 18 for the purpose of religious, charitable and educational activities and community building.

Adult Activities: Offers social activities to strengthen our parish community. Fundraises in support of St. Vincent de Paul.

M.O.M.S.: Support for moms, to enrich their faith through study, prayer and sharing. Childcare is provided.

Pastoral Council:  A consultative body of parishioners who gathers to assist the Pastor in assessing and developing options in various matters confronting the Parish.

 

HOSPITALITY

Welcoming Ministry: Helps to welcome visitors and new members to our parish and provide information to them about our parish.

Funeral Luncheons: Helps in preparation, serving and clean up of a meal following a funeral.

Senior Citizen Luncheons: Helps in preparation, serving and clean up for monthly senior’s luncheon.

Receptions: Helps in preparation, serving and clean up for parish events.

Greeters: Cordially greets people as they arrive for Mass.

 

OFFICE SUPPORT

Collection Counting: Assists with counting Sunday collections on scheduled dates.

Computer Skills: Assists the office staff with computer data entry.

Bulletin Assembly: Folds and put inserts into the bulletin to be ready for distribution.

Mailing: Assists the office by inserting materials into envelopes, sealing and stamping.

Telephone: Makes phone calls as needed to assist the staff.

Website Computer Support: Helps at the office in updating the website.

 

CARE OF THE CAMPUS

Painting: Assists with interior and exterior painting.

Electrical: Assists with the repair and maintenance of the electrical needs of the campus.

Plumbing: Assists with the repair and maintenance of the plumbing on the campus.

Carpentry: Assists with the carpentry needs, either fine or rough work.

Gardening: Assists the gardener with planting, pruning and general care of the grounds.

Cemetery: Assists with the maintenance of the cemetery, such as removal of spent flowers and headstone cleaning.

Church Cleaning: Assists with cleaning the church. All tools and cleaning supplies are provided by the church.

Parking Lot Security:  Performs surveillance of our parking lot during Masses to deter vandalism (when scheduled).
