St. John Pilgrimage of St. Paul

150th Anniversary Pilgrimage

Our parish pilgrims left Sunday morning, April 8th, from Portland International Airport at 6am, the first step in the Footsteps of St. Paul and St. John Pilgrimage.  They arrived in Thessaloniki (where St. Paul preached the gospel to the Thessalonians) on Monday, April 9th.  The next day they traveled to Philippi where they saw the jail where St. Paul was imprisoned.  A highlight today was the celebration of Mass outdoors!

On April 11th, the pilgrims celebrated Mass at the Church of the Immaculate Conception before departing from Thessaloniki.  A stop along the way before settling in at Kalambaka was an icon factory, where they saw artists at work.  On Thursday, April 12th, the pilgrims visited the Meteora ("suspended rocks"), one of the largest and most important complexes of Eastern Orthodox Monasteries in Greece.  Six Monasteries are built on natural sandstone rock pillars!  Friday, April 13th, they move to the seaport of Lavrio and began a three day cruise to the Greek Islands and Turkey.  They began the journey back home on Tuesday morning, April 17th, and arrived in Portland late that night.  Welcome home one and all!
